Apt is surrounded by fields of lavender which hum with the sound of bees industriously collecting pollen, a sight and sound never to be forgotten. Fruit trees abound amongst the vineyards, including cherry.
Apt if well known for crystallised fruit, a type of sweet which goes back to Medieval Provence and was considered a treat in the court of the Popes of Avignon. The fruit comes from orchards around Apt and is why the city is known as 'a cauldron of jams'.
A market has taken place in Apt since the 12th Century and sells a wide range of locally produced cheeses, fruit, vegetables and in season truffles
The local museum, the Muse dApt, contains some interesting artefacts of Roman origin.
