Built on the banks of the rivers Dordogne and Isle, Libourne was where St. Emilion, Pomerol, Fronsac, Bergerac and Monbazillac wines were loaded into ships for export. The town still has its original grid pattern of streets and roads, an arcade square called the Place Abel-Surchamp and some good hotels.
