The historic and tranquil hill-top village of Villefranche de Lonchat is just 15 minutes drive from St Emilion. It has two churches, a museum, a well stocked village shop, baker, chemist and bars. Nearby is Lac de Gurçon where one can swim from a sandy beach, windsurf, hire a pedalo and visit several bars and restaurants. There are tennis courts and riding stables. It is also less than an hour's drive from Bergerac on the River Dordogne. Bergerac boasts a fine collection of old merchants' houses and a statue in honour of its famous son Cyrano de Bergerac.

Maison des Bois is a newly converted, four en-suite bedroom stone barn perfect for up to eight people plus baby.

   

The main entrance is under a wooden canopy and leads to an extremely large split-level living room and dining area. The high ceiling with exposed beams creates a very open and spacious environment. The large windows and French doors look onto the front terrace, garden and pool-area.
 
You can relax in the comfort of a four-piece suite to listen to music on the hi-fi, or watch a video of your choice on the combination TV/Video (there are videos available for all ages). The raised dining area has a large mahogany table and eight chairs and a beautiful mahogany display cabinet. There is access to the kitchen and vestibule, and an open, wooden staircase leads to the 4th bedroom.
   

The spacious wood-beamed kitchen is fully fitted with split-level electric cooker and hob, double sink, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. There is an abundance of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and a farmhouse table and chairs for family meals.

 

Many of the old-fashioned rustic features have been restored including the old stone-sink. The kitchen window looks out onto the private sun-drenched courtyard with access from the kitchen. Here you can relax, sun-bathe or enjoy a meal at the patio table and chairs.
   

The vestibule area has a large pool-table and access to the two double bedrooms and twin bedroom, which has an en-suite with an extra door for shared day-time use.

The large master bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams, views onto the front terrace, garden and pool-area, and a large en-suite with bath and separate walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet.
   

The second double bedroom provides a cosy atmosphere with a beautifully exposed stone wall containing a small niche. This room also looks out onto the front terrace, garden and pool-area. The en-suite has shower, washbasin and toilet.
   

The twin bedroom looks out onto the back courtyard and has an en-suite with shower, wash-basin, toilet which doubles as a day-time facility.

On the upper floor is the fourth bedroom, which is accessible from the dining-area via the wooden-feature open staircase.

   
It is fully carpeted, has twin beds, en-suite with toilet and wash basin. Under the restored eaves., this original hay loft conjures up an atmosphere of former French rural life. There is a child-safe window overlooking the front terrace, garden and pool area.
 

Outside, the wood-beamed canopy area has a tastefully restored crazy-paved terracing, which matches both front and back patio areas. This is the perfect setting for shade, a relaxing BBQ, game of pool, or to enjoy the regions' famous wines.
   

The heated pool has Roman steps and is surrounded by a large patio area. It is set in the private, secured garden which has many well-established and unusual trees.
 
There is parking immediately in front of the house.

There is an automatic watering system installed but the owners will discreetly go about the business of keeping everything perfect and maintaining the pool. Bicycles provided free of charge.
