Get TEN Times the value in France.....

The UK government's latest plan to cut down consumption of cheap lager and alcopops is to up the tax on wine. So once again, responsible wine lovers are paying the price for the irresponsible minority.

The average spend on bottle of wine in the UK is about £5.00 of which Vat and duty now accounts for almost £2.20!

The remaining £2.80 has to cover marketing, advertising, packaging, shipping, storage and the retailer’s profit. The retailer must buy very cheap to allow for overheads, so the actual wine could be worth just a few pence.

Spend £5.00 on a bottle at a French vineyard and the total tax amounts to less than 90p. There are no retailer margins or international shipping costs, so your wine could be worth as much as TEN times the equivalent UK value.

Retailers in the UK often add even bigger mark-ups on quality wines or those perceived to have a higher value. Restaurants typically apply up to 200% mark up or even as much as 600% for prestige wines. In other words, a bottle costing £5 in France could sell for £20 or more in UK.

Buying your wine direct from the vineyard in France gives you much more for your money and far better value. It brings highly acclaimed wines well within the reach of the discerning buyer who is on a budget, or who resents paying high taxes and margins.
