WineDrive (www.winedrive.com) is an exclusive on-line resource for wine lovers and tourists visiting France and its vineyards. It is the only free on-line wine club which identifies quality vineyards in France, giving the tourist directions to find them, and to help discerning UK wine buyers keen to get value for money by ordering quality wines direct from the vineyard. Their wine orders are shipped to a collection point near the port of Calais. An alliance with a leading ferry discount company provides cheap day-return fares so they can collect their wine and make substantial savings.
The web site has more than 1,600 pages in two sections; a free access, comprehensive travel site giving facts and information about wine, the French wine regions, history, places of interest, quick reference routes and 'MicroGuide' town guides, plus information about tourist facilities, hotels and cross Channel services with on-line booking. This is backed by 'Premier Pages', a members-only exclusive information service for the holidaymaker who is interested in visiting French vineyards to taste and buy. Premier Pages directs holiday makers to producers of wines that are right for their taste and pocket, so they don't waste precious holiday time searching for wines which may or may not be what they are looking for
WineDrive members get routes and information about vineyards, wine, history and travel in France, plus ferry and hotel booking links. There are over 900 pages including 144 downloadable routes. WineDrive Premier Pages also simplify the planning of a motoring holiday with a wealth of up-to-the-minute information on possible delays, road works, public events etc. plus comprehensive routes with full itineraries and tourism/historical notes about towns and places of interest. There is also an e-mailed newsletter and users will be able to submit their own wine tasting notes and travel tips.
Membership of winedrive.com is entirely free.
Our producer lists include wines which are held in high regard by the industry and represent good value across a range of appellations and prices. But because taste is a very personal thing, we do not presume to make specific recommendations. No two palates are the same and a wine or particular wine and food combination will create different taste sensations from one person to the next. We believe that anyone seeking to buy wines direct from the vineyard understands this and desires to taste and buy for their own enjoyment and not simply because some professional has recommended it.
Commercial independence is assured as the listed wine producers and communes appear by invitation only, the cost of providing the service being covered by small annual membership fee from the user, equivalent to roughly half the typical yearly cost of a monthly magazine, or about the same as two or three decent bottles of supermarket wine.
